FORT PIERRE, S.D.—The South Dakota State Hearth Marshal’s Office is investigating a house explosion that killed a toddler and her grandparents and left two youthful youngsters hospitalized with burns.
The house about 11 miles southwest of Fort Pierre exploded spherical 10:20 a.m. Wednesday, Stanley County Sheriff Brad Rathbun said.
The sheriff said 6-month-old Harper Hupp and her grandmother, LaDonna Hupp, 61, died on the scene. William Hupp, 66, died at a hospital.
Two boys, 5-year-old Myles and 3-year-old Royce, have been severely injured and flown to a burn unit at a St. Paul, Minnesota, hospital.
The kids’s dad and mother, Kelsey and Trevor Hupp, have been at work in Pierre on the time of the explosion. LaDonna and William Hupp have been Trevor Hupp’s dad and mother.
Kelsey Hupp said on a Caring Bridge account Thursday that Myles has principally first- and second-degree burns on 10 p.c of his physique and Royce suffered third-degree burns on 25 p.c of his physique on his chest and arms.
